Budweiser Field?

Current owner Sam Zell bears no quams about his willingness to sell the naming rights to Wrigley Field. This is a move that would obviously lead to extra revenue but might not necessarilly lead to a bigger budget for Jim Hendry especially for the July trading deadline.

In an interview on CSNBC, Zell expressed his desire to sell the Club and the entity currently known as Wrigley Field seperately. The sale of the team was expected to be a done deal by the start of the season, but Zell has said that the team will be sold in his own time frame.

Now, Sam Zell is a business man first and foremost and whether the Cubs win or out is a distant third or fourth. Many are speculating that Zell is waiting till after the season to sell the club because there is a distinct possibility that the Cubs will be playing deep into October. Although, the sale of the field itself will most likely be done sometime during the season because of Zell's desire to have a state agency acquire and renovate Wrigley Field which would enhance the product as a whole.

  1. I dont care if he sells the naming rights, i just hope they do not change the name of Wrigley Field.  Its funny, I was thinking to myself they might call it Budwiser Field if they do change it.
