The offseason for the Cubs in the past few years has been exciting as they were able to grab names such as Alfonso Soriano, Derek Lee, and Greg Maddux.  But this offseason has many Cubs fans scratching their heads and looking at each other confused.  Confused on what direction Jim Hendry is taking this team.  Is he trying to dump salary?  Is he going in a youth movement?  Is he trying to dump salary to grab a bigger fish in the sea such as Peavy or Ramirez?  Is he building a team to win a World Series this year?  I know the answer to the last one and that is a big NO.  What is he doing?  Lets glance at the Cubs offseason so far.  The Cubs have gotten rid of Mark Derosa, Kerry Wood, Jim Edmonds, Bob Howry, Henry Blanco, Ronny Cedeno, Felix P

The Word Baseball Classic.  A classic game of baseball that features sixteen countries to exhibit their talents to the world.  It is a tournament where players go out and represent their country and our proud to be doing so.  It is the bragging rights for the winner to proclaim they are the best baseball nation in the world.  Famous baseball players around the world will be playing for their countries.  This list includes baseball greats such as Derek Jeter, Miguel Cabrera, Grady Sizemore, Carlos Zambrano, Alex Rodriguez, Ichiro Suzuki, and many more stars to display their talents to the world.  Are you excited?  Are you ready to root for your country and hope they bring home they big cheese?  Are you really that excited?  I say, who cares.  The World Baseball Classic means nothing.  I mean, what is the point of it.  Sure, it is a way for us to see talent around other countries and we can see who will be the next Albert Pujols.  But why do we need this.  In the United States, our nation could care less if we win or lose, even though it is embarrassing for us to lose after it is called "America's Pastime."  United States has many more important things going on in the sports world besides the WBC.  This might mean a lot to other neighboring nations because it is a way for showing their pride and a way of showing their talent to the world.  They do not have the World Series like the United States.  This is their World Series and their gold medal in the Olympics.  Japan went crazy when they won the first WBC title.  It was an honor for them to win it and they really appreciated what they have accomplished.  That will not be the same in the United States.

Every year, every Cubs fan believes this year can possible be finally the year.  The year where all of the misery will finally be forgotten as the Cubs will finally hoist up the trophy that means they are the champions of the world.  For me it is hard to feel 2009 will be any different.  It is hard to get close to these Cubs all over again.  It is hard trying comprehend the lost of Mark Derosa unless it brings Peavy to the Cubs.  I can not see 2009 being a better season than 2008 to make me believe it will  be the year this year.  There were so many moments that made me believe the Cubs were going to win it in 2008.  There were so many walk off wins.  So many comeback victories.  Who could forget the improable comeback where the Cubs were d

               After the Bears were stunned by a dramatic comeback by the Falcons with eleven seconds left, Lovie Smith is still trying to find answers.  His replies are not good enough.  The biggest blunder was Lovie calling for a squib kick with eleven seconds left.  His excuse: “the players were tired”.  That was the words he said on why he called that kick.  This gave the Falcons excellent field position.  All they needed was a miracle pass and have someone go out of bounds quickly.  That is what happened as Matt Ryan connected with Norwood.  Advice to Lovie: Do not underestimate the game of football.  This was like a slap of the face to Lovie.  Lovie thought he won.  Thought? That’s all that happened Sunday, everyone thought they were going to win.  But, the realization is, they lost.  Nothing else.  All because of one play that cost the whole game.  You play the whole game, even if there is eleven seconds left.  Time is time.  Anything can happen.  That is what just happened.  I don’t think the Falcons have realized they won yet.  After a horrible decision on a squib quick, Lovie decides to call a cover two for the defense.  Why would he make such a call when everyone in the building knows a hail mary is coming?  Lovie can not turn back the clocks.  The Bears could have been a full game in first as the other teams still trying to find their identity.  A thought.  Next time, Lovie should have thought about the game on the field, not the post-game celebration.

After the Cubs picked up Rich Hardens option,  there still is unfinished business with putting the final pieces for the Cubs winning it all in 2009.  Still hurts to say I have to wait to next year.  Anyways, I am already writtng my Christmas list to Jolly Ole Saint Nick (AKA Jim Hendry).  He better hear my demands or he will be unhappy when he sees that there is coal in his stocking. 

Go After Sabathia!!

I’m going coco for C.C.  We all should.  After joining the Brewers Sabathia went 11-2 with a 1.65 ERA.  He just dominated the National League.  I think he will continue to do that will the nasty pitches he has.  I think the Cubs should steer him away from the West Coast and convince him he will continue to make National League hitters foolish.  Offer him a small contract.   I don’t care how much it is.  If you want to win next year, get him on your team.

       Last night was the first game in the NLCS between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Philadelphia Philles.  First of all, the Cubs should be in this position facing the Phillies, not the Dodgers.  But our overpaid players did not show up for any of the games.  The only one that seemed to show up was the batboy.  Anyways, I was watching the game last night and the Phillies did something that threw the Dodgers off: Having a left handed pitcher face them.  This would be a shocker after the Dodgers faced three straight righties against the mighty Chicago Cubs.  This was the first sign that the Cubs were in trouble against the Dodgers.  You can not face a team in this quick series and not throw a lefty out there.  I saw the Dodgers hitters lost against Cole Hamels.  Sure, the Dodgers got two runs, but Hamels just shut the door right after.  Why?  Dodgers had to face a lefty and had to adjust.

Fargas is probably available in everyone’s league.  Take him.  He is now healthy and starting against the Saints.  Oakland is third in run offense in the NFL.

After witnessing another embarassing post-season game, the Cubs find themselves down 0-2 against the Dodgers heading to LA.  All the Dodgers need to do is win one game.  All the Cubs need to do is win three straight games.  Which one do you think is easier.  With the Cubs losing 10-3 Thursday night, it was obvious who the better manager was during this game by pulling all the right strings.  No it wasn't Sweet Lou, it was Joe Torre.  He played the game right in a playoff game, Lou didn't.  Torre played small ball, Sweet Lou didn't.  Here is an example and one of the most critical parts of the game.  It was the first inning and Soriano was at second with nobody outs.  With the Cubs struggling to score runs in the playoffs, you would think Theriot would bunt Soriano to third with Lee
