The Word Baseball Classic. A classic game of baseball that features sixteen countries to exhibit their talents to the world. It is a tournament where players go out and represent their country and our proud to be doing so. It is the bragging rights for the winner to proclaim they are the best baseball nation in the world. Famous baseball players around the world will be playing for their countries. This list includes baseball greats such as Derek Jeter, Miguel Cabrera, Grady Sizemore, Carlos Zambrano, Alex Rodriguez, Ichiro Suzuki, and many more stars to display their talents to the world. Are you excited? Are you ready to root for your country and hope they bring home they big cheese? Are you really that excited? I say, who cares. The World Baseball Classic means nothing. I mean, what is the point of it. Sure, it is a way for us to see talent around other countries and we can see who will be the next Albert Pujols. But why do we need this. In the United States, our nation could care less if we win or lose, even though it is embarrassing for us to lose after it is called "America's Pastime." United States has many more important things going on in the sports world besides the WBC. This might mean a lot to other neighboring nations because it is a way for showing their pride and a way of showing their talent to the world. They do not have the World Series like the United States. This is their World Series and their gold medal in the Olympics. Japan went crazy when they won the first WBC title. It was an honor for them to win it and they really appreciated what they have accomplished. That will not be the same in the United States.
Sure, people will be happy we won, but that amount of people can not even fill Wrigley Field. We saw from the first WBC how horrible the ratings were. One theory might be because of some of the games were being played so early or when we were asleep. I think we just did not care. Why would the U.S. be excited about winning a WBC? Baseball fans would rather see their team win the World Series than that scrap medal. It’s hard for me to be excited about the WBC because what does it really mean? I don't know. Maybe it is just a way to promote baseball to other countries. Or maybe it is just a way to exploit other countries and make a quick buck. WBC I feel is just an extended spring training. The real baseball does not start until Opening Day for MLB. One thing that is hard for me is who do I cheer for in the WBC?
People say I should cheer for the USA because that is where I am from. But, my favorite players play in like all of the countries. So maybe it’s a win-win situation for me and I come up on top in the end. All I know is the WBC is a World Baseball of Crap.
