I am so excited to finally watch a Chicago Cubs game in Spring Training. So, I am gonna do my best to do up-to-the-minute highlgihts.
9:06 p.m.: Getting ready to start. White Sox John Danks is the starting pitcher. So Taguchi plaays right field for the Cubbies. Derrek Lee is off, Micah Houffpauir is at first. Seems sold out, which I think it is. Groovy.
9:08 p.m.: First Pitch!!
9:08 p.m.: And just like that, Soriano hit it high but straight to Jermaine Dye. But good swing, could have been a homer.
9:15 p.m.: End of the top 1st. Two on and we can't do anything. Jeff Samardzija is gonna face the Sox in the bottom.
9:18 p.m.: So good to hear Len Kasper and Bob Brenly voices again!
Come on Jeff!
9:19 p.m.: The boos and cheers for A.J. begin. Got a double.
9:24 p.m.: Ok, Jeff got out of the inning with two on. Reed Johson is still a beast! He smacked the wall catching that ball. Jeff needs a good nickname, dontcha think?
9:27 p.m.: Wow, so the mayor of Las Vegas shows up for our game. Makes the other teams kinda pissed off they don't get special treatment of booze and "laides."
9:32p.m.: Good ol' Sweet Lou!! I love this guy!!
9:34 p.m.: So Tyler Flowers blossomed onto first base. hardy har har. Darn it, Rami
9:40 p.m.: God dammit Sori!! You can't simply catch that!!
9:42 p.m.: And that's what happens. Sox up 1-0
9:52 p.m.: Jeff, why you gotta be hitting people? First Paulie (my fave Sox) then J.D. What's with the jitters?
9:53 p.m.: Two-run homer by Sox, up 3-0. Len makes a point that the Cubs hadn't given up a homer this spring till now.
10:05 p.m.: The Sox have a pitcher named John Van Benschoten. Looks as tall as Randy Johnson, has Johnson's 51 number, and kinda throws like him. He's just not horrendously ugly like him.
10:09 p.m.: YAY! So-T brings in 2 runs for Cubbies! Down 3-2 top 4th.
10:22 p.m. 4-2 Sox now. Nothing special happening right now.
10:28 p.m.: All right, Rami! 2nd and 3rd, no outs!
10:28 p.m.:...And he's done for the night.
10:30 p.m.: 4-3 on sac fly.
10:33 p.m.: Len makes a note they could have had more runs as the top 5th is done. So true.
10:37 p.m.: Paulie hits a solo. 5-3. I'm happy and sad. Love Paulie, but love the Cubs also. Paulie should be a Cub.
10:53 p.m.: Len's discussing where all the Cub relievers have gone. I still wish they would have kept Kerry Wood. He had potential to be an outstanding closer, almost a la John Smoltz. It kept Kerry's innings down.
10:55 p.m. Cubs get a run via sac fly, 5-4 now.
10:58 p.m.: YESSSSS!!! The Riot hits a double, all tied up!!!!!! YIPEEEEEE!!!!
11:06 p.m.: Nice catch by Reed. Saved a run.
11:13 p.m.: A wacky 5-6-4 play the White Sox did. Nice. Though now the Cubs have 2 outs in the 7th.
11:14 p.m.: Let's all stretch now!
11:19 p.m: We really gotta work on our fielding.
11:27 p.m.: I love product placements."Oh, by the way, go to our site to try to bid ridiculous amounts of money to see your belvoed Cubs, because true fans do that!" I am aware that advertisers pay to get mentioned, which is supposed to reduce costs for the consumer. That hasn't been the case with the Cubs, who had the 2nd highest avgerage ticket price behind the Red Sox.
11:34 p.m.: Cubs take lead! 6-5 in top 8th.
11:44 p.m.: DO YOU SEE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I LEAVE FOR A BIT!!!! Now tied up again!!!!!!
11:51 p.m.: Going to the bottom of the 9th. Hopeefully they can prevent the Sox from scoring and we can get overtime.
11:57 p.m.: Didn't I mention we gotta work on our pitching? Oh, no I didn't. Well, we gotta work on that.
11:58 p.m.: RBI single by Ben Broussard wins it for the Sox, 7-6.
Pretty much, decent game, need to work on fielding, since the Cubs were playing deep. Some miscues, but overall not bad. Jeff did decent in his outing, but will improve. He could be a starter or middle reliever.
Well, had a lot of fun doing this for the first time. It is now past midnight on Thursday, March 5th. Should stay up 3 more hours and watch the World Baseball Classic.
Well, maybe not, but I will look foward to watching the rematch of tonight's game later on. Take care.
