Patrick Gallagher's Chicago Cubs Fan Profile
Extended profile
Who am I?
I am a Toledo, Ohio native who grew up a Chicago Cubs fan through my father (born and raised in Chicago). I have a real passion for the game having played from grammar school through high school. Always being a student of game.
I have been attending games at Wrigley Field every season since I can remember, an uncle of mine had been a member of their front office during the 1980's and '90's.

ZambraNO-NO! posted on 09/15/2008
Carlos Zambrano Threw the first Cubs no-hitter since 1972 last night in Milwaukee against the Astros. Due to Hurricane Ike the game was moved from Houston to "Wrigley Field North," in Milwaukee. Practically a home game for the Cubs, Carlos Zambrano threw 9 innings of no-hit ball, which included a season high 10 strikeouts, a hit batsmen, and a base on balls. It was the first no-hitter in Major League baseball history in which a game was played at a neutral site.
"I'm a little confused right now," Zambrano said. "I still can't believe it. It's a great feeling, and it's a feeling that you can't describe. To throw a no-hitter is good, man. This is one of the few things in baseball that you most enjoy."
This was Zambrano's first start in 12 days after he had experienced discomfort in his right throwing shoulder. Though it seems the time off he was given did some good!

Update on Big Z.. posted on 09/08/2008
The Cubs Ace, Carlos Zambrano, left early last Tuesday against the Houston Astros with discomfort in his throwing shoulder. After the game he had received an anti-inflammatory injection in his right shoulder.
On Sunday, however, Zambrano threw lightly and reported no problems.
''He felt pretty good, which is good news,'' Piniella said of Zambrano, who was in a good enough mood in the clubhouse afterward to spend the rest of his pregame time clowning with teammates -- at one point doing a lap around the clubhouse on a bicycle. (Chicago Suntimes)
Piniella said Zambrano's status for next weekends series against division foe Houston will be firmed up after he has a full bullpen session in St. Louis. This comes as good news to Cubs fans as we were all praying the second he left his last start early that is injury wouldn't be severe enough to miss a significant amount of time.

Cubs, losers of 5 straight, time to freakout!? I dont think so.. posted on 09/05/2008
Our beloved Cubs, often mentioned this season as the best team in the National League, are losers of 5 consecutive ball games, 3 of which to the middle of the pack Houston Astros (74-66). These are teams the Cubs should be handling or atleast winning the series. You may ask your self the famed question that usually comes this time of year..."Is the curse for real and if so is it starting!?"
Thinking to yourself-down the stretch of the season in September with a 5 game lead over 2nd place Milwaukee, are the Cubs starting to flop? My answer to this is no. The Chicago Cubs are an excellent ballclub top to bottom. The pitching is there, the bullpen and a great offense (shown itself on numerous occasions late in ball games that they can flip the switch on when needed). This team has argueably 6 offensive superstars in Lee, Ramirez, Soriano, Edmonds, Soto and Fukudome. Two #1 starters in Carlos Zambrano and Rich Harden, although Ryan Dempster is playing like one as well. An excellent cast of role players such as Ryan Theriot, Mark DeRosa and supersub Mike Fontenot. Lastly a proven, veteran Manager in Sweet Lou Piniella who's character and record show for itself. So I tell you this Cub Nation, Baseball is a very streaky sport and weird things happen. So expect the unexpected as the Cubs approach the post season...
