Jim Edmonds

13 August 2008

e Around the Horn way of hitting all the spots on the field, we continue with a foe-turned-ally, CF Jim Edmonds.

It would be easy for me to sit here and say that I saw this coming, that Edmonds' meteoric rise to the top of all Cubs fans' hearts was foretold ages ago in May.  And it would be a lie, because no one, save for one GM Jim Hendry, thought

Hopefully Jim Edmonds starts in center considering he has destroyed Moehler in the past with 4 HR's in only 9 AB's against Moehler from 2003-2007 and a .400 average with 1 HR in 5 AB's against Moehler.  It also seems like a good night for Lou to consider putting Daryle Ward in the lineup either at first base or right field. Derrek Lee has not had success again Moehler in the past and would probably welcome a night off considering he is 2 for his last 22 AB's with only 9 hits in his last 10 games. Fukudome seems to be out of his slump, but Ward's career numbers against Moehler may warrant his start. D-Ward is a .571 hitter with 3 RBI against Moehler. The Houston Astros have been hot lately coming off a surprising sweep over the Mets in a 3-game series and winning 7 of their last 9. The Astros are 5-4 against the Cubs in 2008 and have won 2 of the 3 series match-ups.

Jim Edmonds had two huge home runs against the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday. The home runs just added salt to the Brewers' wounds. The Cubs beat the Brewers in games 1 through 4..... 6-4, 7-1, 7-2, and 11-4. The beating the Brewers received from the Chicago Cubs throughout the 4-game sweep hit a nerve. Frustration was obvious in the 9th inning when Eric Gagne of the Brewers threw behind

Back when I posted Why the Jim Edmonds signing DOES make sense Jimmy was in the midst of a horrendous slump to start the season.

He was 16 of 90 at San Diego and a measley 2 for 15 at the time in a Cubs uniform.  I felt though that he would heat up and contribute and he has done that and more.  He has gone 23 for 67 or a .343 clip with 6 homers as a Cub since I made those comments

How about that Jim Edmonds? Jimmy Ballgame. Jimmy Baseball. The Man, the Myth, the rival swapping Legend that is Jim Patrick Edmonds. Just a mere nine months ago he was a villain, walking through the halls of the nemesis kingdom that is St. Louis. I find it hard to believe that we've adopted him as our own, but I'm at peace with it, and you should be too.

I have to disagree with those that say that the Jim Edmonds signing doesnt make sense and those that would really get down on it now with his 2-15 start.   There are numerous reasons why this DOES make sense for the Chicago Cubs
