It's the first day of Spring Training and there are already too many distractions. Spring Training is about preparing for that 162 game season, working on fundamentals, hitting, pitching and learning how to communicate with Fukudome. Not about whether Aramis Ramirez raises chickens for cockfighting in the Dominican Republic. Not about bold predictions, as given by Ryan Dempster, who is not sure if he's even going to gain one of the starting positions in the rotation.

It is also not the time to bring in the Tribster's Crane Kenney to talk to the team about the potential sale on the horizon. Regardless of who owns the team this season, the players are going to give it their all, and push to end the drought. They are being payed to play, and that is what they are going to do for any owner.

It figures. The Chicago Cubs have invested millions of dollar to rehabilitate their pitchers on top of the multi-million dollars they were paying them. When Mark Prior signed with the San Diego Padres this off-season I said to everyone I know that he'd be healthy for Spring Training.

So it wasn't a surprise to me when I opened my paper this morning to see that Mark Prior is actually at Spring Training, something that Cubdom had not seen for years. And Prior reports no pain in his right, surgically repaired shoulder. Keep in mind its Cubdom money that paid to fix that shoulder. All that money wasted because Prior couldn't make a commitment to spend two more years with a team who put up with his injuries, paid for his rehab, and still paid him his millions.

It also wouldn't surprise me if Prior was to come back and help the San Diego Padres make a run for the playoffs. Time will only tell. Here's to hoping that the Chicago Cubs don't have to pass another Prior obstacle this season.

Continue reading "San Diego to Benefit from Cubdoms Millions"
